MicroSoft is SOOO Helpful....
So there's supposed to be a File Converter downloadable from MS to convert Word Mobile .docx files to regular Word .doc files.

Anybody know where it effing IS?

You need to go to this webpage

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en

and download the patch

I am having the same problem, but my work computer will not install it.

Yeah, like that's intuitive.

Thanks, [info]ldycat1170.

And no thanks, MicroSoft.

*.docx isn't Word Mobile. It's the new format with integrated XML created with the introduction of Office 2007. All programs have moved to that format - Excel *.xlsx, Powerpoint *.pptx, etc.

Which doesn't make it any less annoying. On an interface note, the entire "ribbon" crap in new Office makes me crazed.

Thanks. The issue is that I have Word Mobile -- apparently a stripped-down version of "real" Word -- on my new smartphone (HTC Pure), but that it saves files in a different format than "real" Word. The documentation says that you need to download the File Converter from MicroSoft, but nowhere can you find where that actually lives. Go to MS's site, search for "converter" or ".dcox" or whatever, you won't find it. You have to know. Or have a geek you can call who knows %^)....

I hate that.

Oh, and I despise Word. Way too many bells and whistles (and horns and cymbals) to bushwhack through to just type up some garden-variety text. I use Works (or WordPad) when I can. But often, I find you just have to use Word. And if I have the function on the 'phone, I want to be able to use it if I need it.
