It's that time of year

3.5# flat corned beef brisket
the spice pack that came with it
3 med purple turnips
4 all-purpose potatoes
4 carrots
1 cabbage
3 onions
1 tsp coriander
1 tsp caraway
several grinds of black pepper
2 bay leaves
1 bottle of Guinness Extra Stout

Drain the brisket into a crock pot, and trim it with maniacal obsession
of all fat and silverskin. No really. Use tweezers if you have to.

Plop in the brisket and sprinkle the spice pack over it. Slice the turnips thickly. Halve or quarter the potatoes, carrots, cabbage, and onions to fit. Layer everything in order in crock pot. Add the spices and pour the Guinness over it. Turn pot on to low. Come back when you can't resist that smell permeating the kitchen any longer.

So mindless even I can do it.
